How to schedule your free local pickup
1. Tell us about your vehicle and location

2. Choose a convenient pickup day and time window
We’ll work with your schedule and local traffic realities. In busy areas like Downtown, SoMa, or the Financial District, we may suggest off-peak times. In suburbs like Daly City, San Bruno, Oakland, or Berkeley, we’ll coordinate a window that fits both you and our local tow partner’s route.
3. Prepare your title, keys, and vehicle access
Before pickup, locate your California title and keys, clear personal items from the car, and confirm building or garage access. If your vehicle is in a secured lot, HOA area, or metered street, make sure we’ll be allowed in or know any needed permits or gate codes in advance.
4. Meet the tow driver or arrange a safe drop-off spot
In most San Francisco neighborhoods we can complete everything curbside in a few minutes. If you can’t be home, we may be able to coordinate a key handoff or hidden key location where local regulations and your building rules allow. The driver will load your vehicle at no cost to you.
5. Sign the simple donation paperwork
At pickup, you’ll review and sign a basic donation document and transfer of ownership. AutoBay Alliance then processes the vehicle sale, and you receive a tax receipt. For donations valued over $500, you’ll also receive IRS Form 1098-C to support your federal tax deduction.
6. Your gift supports Heritage for the Blind locally
Once your car is picked up, AutoBay Alliance channels the proceeds to Heritage for the Blind, helping fund services for people who are blind or visually impaired. Your local donation turns an unused vehicle into support for community members who need it most.
Local pickup gotchas
Tight San Francisco streets, steep hills, and tow-truck access
Tip: Many areas like Russian Hill, Telegraph Hill, and parts of the Mission have narrow or steep streets. Let us know if your block is especially tight or sloped. We may ask you to park on a nearby cross street or schedule at a time when double-parking for a flatbed is more feasible.
Gated garages, HOAs, and secured parking structures
Tip: Buildings in SoMa, Mission Bay, and South Beach often have secure garages or HOA-managed lots. Please confirm we’re on any access list, provide gate or garage codes if allowed, and coordinate with your property manager so the tow driver can enter and maneuver safely without delays.
Permit-only or metered street parking rules
Tip: Residential permit zones in the Inner Sunset, Bernal Heights, and Noe Valley, or strict meter rules downtown, can affect where and when we can load your vehicle. If possible, move the car to a legal, accessible spot before pickup, or tell us about local restrictions so we can plan around them.
Outlying or semi-rural Bay Area locations
Tip: If you’re outside the dense core—such as Pacifica, Half Moon Bay, Vallejo, Fairfield, or further inland—pickup is still free but routing can take longer. Share any driveway challenges, dirt roads, or limited cell service so we can schedule the right truck and give you a realistic time window.
If at-home pickup is tricky
If at-home pickup is tricky—for example, your car is in a tight underground garage, a building with strict loading rules, or a remote driveway—we’ll look for alternatives with you. In some parts of the Bay Area, our local towing partners can meet you at a nearby wider street, public lot, or friend’s driveway to complete the handoff safely and legally. If your vehicle is already at a shop or storage facility in San Francisco, Oakland, or another nearby city, we can often coordinate pickup directly with them so you don’t have to move the car yourself.

For California titles, you’ll endorse the title to complete the transfer; plates typically remain with you, and you may choose to submit a Release of Liability to the California DMV after donation.
